M3 XXT, Styli straight, diamond coated sphere, carbon fibre shaft

The ZEISS Diamond!Scan® carbo consists of a diamond-coated (ceramic) sphere that is glued onto a carbon fiber shaft. It is particularly suitable for scanning magnetic materials where styli with a hard metal shaft cannot be used. They are primarily used for the measurement of permanent-magnetic stator parts in electric engines. Coated spheres have a higher roundness as solid diamond spheres. ZEISS Diamond!Scan® carbo is available in diameters of 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 mm.

Carbon fiber shafts represent an optimum combination of stiffness, weight, and thermal linear expansion. This makes them particularly suitable for long styli and demanding measurement tasks, such as in production with constantly changing ambient temperatures. They are also ideal for magnetic applications. The straight shaft is the simplest stylus design and the one with the longest usable length. The full shaft length can be used as measuring length. Carbon fibre shafts have the best thermal behaviour and the lowest weight, but a little less stiffness.

Diamond coated styli are very robust and have almost no material deposits during measurement. The base material of the spheres is silicon nitride sphere with a polished diamond coating. The special diamond coated surface is nearly as hard as a full diamond and is very resistant while scanning hard materials. In combination with the carbon fibre shaft this stylus is ideal for the measurement of magnetic materials, e.g. in the field of electric engines.
